چکیده
a tumor in the mouth with a central ulcer, located on the hard and soft palate, measuring approximately 6cm (Figure 1A). A panoramic radiograph showed bone lysis in teeth 25 to 28, maxillary sinus involvement and extension into the floor of the orbit. (Figure 1B). A biopsy was made and the specimen was sent to the Pathology Unit. Histopathology revealed a malignant gland epithelial neoplasm characterized by basaloid cell proliferation arranged in nests and solid trabecules. Some nests had central necrosis (Figure 1C). Nuclear pleomorphism, evident nucleoli and mitosis were seen (Figure 1D). The diagnosis was the solid variant of adenoid cystic carcinoma. The patient was referred to the Head & Neck Surgery Unit. Radiotherapy was to be followed by surgical removal of the tumor. The patient, however, died before treatment, due to the tumor.

متن کاملA Hybrid Carcinoma of Epithelial-Myoepithelial Carcinoma and Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma in Maxillary Sinus
Hybrid carcinoma of the salivary gland is a very rare entity that has been described only in the parotid and palate. The occurrence of a hybrid carcinoma of maxillary sinus has not been reported. The diagnosis of hybrid carcinoma is important particularly when the components of tumor have different biologic behaviors. Diagnosis and treatment require a high index of suspicion, especially when th...
متن کاملExpression of neural cell adhesion molecule in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma and its correlation with perineural invasion.
The expression of neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) was analyzed in immunohistochemical preparations from adenoid cystic carcinoma. The goal was to evaluate whether NCAM expression could be used as a biological marker for the perineural invasion of adenoid cystic carcinoma in the head and neck. The presence of perineural invasion and NCAM expression was evaluated in samples from 49 patients....
متن کاملAdenoid Cystic Carcinoma of Nasal Cavity; A Rare Case Report
Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is usually a slow growing but highly malignant neoplasm with a remarkable capacity for recurrence. It mainly affects salivary glands, palate and is rare in the nose and paranasal sinuses. A case report of 38 years old male with ACC of left nasal cavity who presented with gradually progressing left sided nasal obstruction is presented here. The CT scan showed mass ...
متن کاملAdenoid cystic carcinoma of maxillary sinus metastatic to the kidney: a case report and review of the literature
Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignant tumor of minor salivary gland, accounting for less than 2% of all the head and neck malignancies. It is characterized as slow growth, long clinical course, local recurrences and distant metastases. Once ACC of primary site presents recurrence and distant metastasis, the prognosis is generally poor. Renal metastasis related to this cancer is rel...
